JP SAS Trading Pty Ltd Recall Children's Face Paint - Excessive Lead
The recalled "Horror Make-Up" face paint was tested during a recent ACCC product safety survey of young children’s finger paints and other toys. Although the survey indicated a generally good level of compliance among most toy retailers, the horror make-up set was discovered to contain a level of lead in excess of the amount permitted by the mandatory standard for certain migratable elements.
The face paint was sold through various discount variety stores and the ACCC urges consumers to cease using the product immediately. For further information please visit the recall notice here.
Lead can be absorbed into the body by swallowing, chewing, inhaling or making skin contact with substances containing even minute traces of the metal. Lead accumulates in the body over time and can have permanent, adverse effects on children’s physical and mental health.
Suppliers selling children's toys are responsible for ensuring that the products they supply meet the applicable mandatory standards, including the standard for certain migratable elements, AS/NZS ISO 8124.3:2003, as varied by the regulation.
See the Product Safety Australia website for further information about lead in children's toys.
